Gardner, Miriam. The Strange Women.
I read somewhere that the published version of this novel is only a skeletal remnant of the original, and this novel reads very much as if that were true. The plot is rushed as is the character development. Additionally, the protagonist is too self-centered to be of much interest, and the smug heterosexual resolution of the lesbian affair is patronizing. In talking about her lesbian novels, Zimmer-Bradley has said that she knew nothing about what she was writing about, and it shows.
